Bob Faulkner is a daylily hybridizer from Dayton, Ohio and on Sunday, August 8 he will be giving a special lecture at Birmingham Botanical Gardens at 2 p.m. in the Linn-Henley Lecture Hall. Following his presentation, there will be an auction of some of Mr. Faulkner's creations. The lecture is free and open to the public. The Alabama Orchid Society hosts its annual show & sale September 18-19 in the Garden Center at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, featuring dozens of unique and beautiful orchids from local and national vendors. Orchids submitted by growers and orchid societies will be judged by the Alabama Orchid Society. The show/sale is free and open to the public.

This juried show is an annual tradition featuring hand built and wheel thrown pottery, woodworking, handmade baskets, leaded and slumped glass, silver and other handmade jewelry, fiber works including hooked wall hangings and quilts, weaving and spinning, blacksmithing and copper working, printmaking, stone sculpture and many other traditional crafts. There will also be a children’s corner with activities provided by the artists. There will be door prizes as well! The Fine Craft Classic is free and open to the public with a suggested $3 donation. Mark your calendars for the annual Red Mountain Greenery Sale on Wednesday, December 8! Stop by to get check out the variety of wreaths, garlands, pre-made mailbox decorations or kits to make your own that will be for sale. Centerpieces, boxwood topiaries, kissing balls and much more all using freshly cut greenery and fruit will also be available. This year, the Red Mountain Garden Club will offer "Mobile Mailboxes," a new service where talented designers will come right to your home to create a personalized mailbox decoration!
