Q: What are the plants chosen for the 2015 free members-only plant?


Friday, November 20 | 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday, November 21 | 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

A: Choose your free plant from four different plants selected by CEO Fred Spicer. Stop by the first floor Adventure Classroom in the Garden Center to pick up your free plant. Limit one plant per membership. No rainchecks.

Q: What are the other gardens that have reciprocal privileges?

A: Click here to see an up-to-date list of particpating gardens. Call all gardens ahead of time before you plan your visit. Some gardens have certain exclusions for special events, or if you live within 90 miles of the garden and each garden has its own unique admissions policy and hours of operations. Be sure to take your current membership card with you.

Q: How do I get my free members-only gift?

A: You will receive a free gift voucher in your membership packet when you join or renew. Your free gift can be picked up in our office during normal business hours (M-F; 8-5 p.m.). When you enter the Garden Center, take the elevator or stairs to the second floor. You must present your voucher to receive your free gift. Only one free gift per membership per year and gifts will not be mailed. Student and Young Professional levels do not receive a free gift, but may purchase one for $5.

Q: I am a member at the Hydrangea (or higher) level, when will I begin to receive my subscription to Birmingham Home & Garden?

A: Your current membership provides a one-year subscription (6 issues) to Birmingham Home & Garden. Due to processing, it can take 4-8 weeks for you to receive your first issue. Your complimentary subscription does not include special editions.

Q: How do I receive my member discount in the gift shop or at the cafe?

A: Members should present their current membership card at checkout to receive discount. Members dining in the cafe should mention to their waiter that they are a current member. The gift shop discount is only applicable at Leaf & Petal at The Gardens and does not apply to other Leaf & Petal locations.

Q: I'm supposed to receive a free garden related book with my membership. When will I be able to pick it up?

A: Members at the Magnolia (and higher) level receive a free garden related book. You will receive a notice in the mail sometime in October with the current years choices and a time when the books will be available. Only one book per membership per year. Books are only available during the specified time frame and will not be mailed.

Q: How many cards are included with my membership?

A: All levels receive one card per membership. Additional cards may be requested, but are not required.

Q: If I forget to bring my membership card, can I still visit The Gardens?

A: There is no admission charge to enter The Gardens. Your membership card grants you access to special members-only events.

Q: How can I replace a lost/stolen membership card?

A: Please contact the membership assistant at 205.414.3950 for a replacement card. Please allow up to one week for delivery.

Q: How can I keep up on The Gardens events and news?

A: As a member, you will receive The Garden Dirt, our member newsletter. Updates and a calendar of events are also available online. Don't forget to sign up for our e-newsletter, The Dirt E-lert.

Q: How does the reciprocal program work?

A: As a member, you receive free or discounted admission to more than 180 gardens throughout the country. Click here for a list of participating institutions. Please be aware that the list is subject to change as gardens sometimes change their participation during the year. Please remember to carry your Birmingham Botanical Gardens membership card with you when you travel to reciprocating gardens.

Q: Is my membership tax deductible?

A: Yes. Your payment, less the fair market value of the benefits you receive, is deductible for income tax purposes. You can waive your benefits and receive full tax-deductibility. Please indicate this on your membership form. Under Internal Revenue Services guidelines, the tax-deductibility of the membership levels are as follows:
Individual - $45.00
Family - $60.00
Magnolia - $100
Oak - $225
Ambassador - $475
President’s Circle - $875
