Title: Volunteer Coordinator

How long have you worked at The Gardens? 1 month

Why do you enjoy working at The Gardens? Viewing the breathtaking beauty of the Gardens everyday as I drive through the entrance; working in a positive environment with a great staff and great volunteers.

Hometown: Anniston, AL

Education: Currently pursuing A.A.S. in Landscape Design at Jefferson State Community College. B.S. in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University, and an A.S. in Early Childhood Education from Gadsden State Community College

Previous Experience: Lead Gardener and Personal Assistant; Elementary School Teacher in Calhoun, Talladega, and Jefferson Counties; also a former Church Pianist and Organist

Favorite Flower: Bird’s Food Violet

Favorite Garden: Kaul Wildflower Garden

Hobbies: Researching plants; growing natives and wildflowers; playing pop, country, and gospel music on keyboard, piano, and organ; singing in ensembles; sketching, painting, fishing and cooking

Fun Fact: I represented my school in the Calhoun County Spelling Bee in 1969 and lost on the word “beauteous” with only 11 of 64 contestants remaining. I skipped school only one time but with permission from the principle. I enjoy hiking rocky, rugged trails in forests and parks.

Goals: To receive a degree in landscape design at Jefferson State and to travel and see plants and gardens all over the United States and abroad.
